Burton Ohio has THE BEST NEIGHBORS in the world.
When I was a kid, I was taught that Jesus said we
should LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS OURSELVES. I thought ´THAT´S EASY´! I can
still remember the laughter of the people in Burton Ohio who lived
next door to us. All of us kids played outside until the
sun set. Winter as well as summer. EVERYTHING was a community event.
I grew up with these people. The Rollands, Ronyaks and Hanzels I
STILL remember as family..
LOVING NEIGHBORS IS EASY: but then a guy said ´WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?´
Jesus went on to tell the story of the good samaritan. The jewish
people in those days looked at the samaritans as a false sect. Like
the way a muslim or jewish person looks at a christian. Or as a
christian looks at those muslims and jewish people. I don´t know if
the neighbor was the jewish guy beaten up on the side of the road, or
the good samaritan who helped him. I think they were both neighbors.
And they were both the neighbor. (ok, I am confused.) But I think the
gist is that we should go out of our way, to be extravagantly kind to
everyone and anyone who needs our love and kindness. Not grudgingly,
nor sparingly, but OVER THE TOP. Like the good samaritan did for
someone who didnt vote like him, think like him, pray like him or even
believed like him. Let´s proactively LOOK for that beaten up old sole
in a ditch somewhere and shower him with love and kindness. THAT´s how
you share you faith.
Please forgive the tardiness of this week´s newsletter. Nicaragua´s
internet is down a lot, tons and power outages and my wife has been in
and out of the hospital this week with what they are saying is a
hyperactive thyroid. She is sliding in and out of ´diabetes like´
comas. She´s really doing poorly, please pray for her. Pray for our
kids as well. They seem to be handling it even better than I am, but
who knows what´s going on inside.
