Lazy

Prov 10:26 KJV
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

Although the King James Version of the Bible (my fav) doesn’t use the word lazy it does use the word ‘sluggard’, which means lazy person.  Lazy is kind of a gentle way of saying ‘sluggard’.

The spanish word for lazy is ‘perizoso’.  Also the word for sloth is ‘perizoso’.  They move one inch a day.  They eat ants.  They kill more people in Central and South America than any other wild animal.  The sloths hold on to a tree limb and wait for ants to crawl into their mouths.  They love to hang on limbs over the rivers.  Everyone who swims in rivers loves to swing from vines (connected to the limbs that the sloths love to hang on) and fly into the water.  The motion from the swinging vine makes the sloth fall into the water.  While sloths can swim, their fur is like a wet mink coat.  Their grips are fantastic, so they swim to the nearest highest point before their ‘fur coat’ pulls them down. The highest point is usually the poor vine swinging swimmers head, sinking them.  Lazy (perizoso) kills.

When lazy people come to me and say God called them to do something, I tend to get suspicious.  The calling is usually about money or they just want a change of scenery thinking that the grass is greener on the other side of thefence.  They tend to bring death to ministries, people being ministered to and to the ministers themselves.  Lazy people pull others down.  Laziness is death.  I am not boasting, nor trying to make others feel bad.  I am 60, I have to force myself to get up and to hate sleep, but it is easier and easier to fall into laziness.

God never has called a lazy person to do something for Him, ever!  Except maybe for the lazy to get off their rear ends.  Most people stop being lazy themoment they have an encounter with the Creator of the Universe.

God does call the saved, the hard workers, but the first thing He shows them is to slow way down and wait on Him.  When I first got saved I was bouncing all over the place.  God showed me I needed to slow down.  Decades later I am still told to slow down, but mostly by lazy people, and some well intentioned brothers and sisters in Christ.  I believe though, that God is happy with my pace, albeit notably slower every year lately.

Leadership 101: if you want something done, give it to a busy man to do.

Leadership 101: slower is faster, meaning busy guys move too fast and you have to slow them down.

Prov 13:4 KJV The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but thesoul of the diligent shall be made fat.

HEY!  Maybe That’s why I can’t lose weight!!

2 Th 3:10 KJV For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

I work, therefore I eat.

Mat 25:26 KJV His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant.

Prov 26:13-14 KJV The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. {14} As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

Hmmm, that sounds familiar.

Interestingly enough, God uses ants (sloths favorite food) as an example of how Christians should be in Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant thou sluggard and consider it’s ways, and be wise…

Just like the lazy sloth (perizoso) just hangs around and kills ants, lazy people love to kill the drive and motivation of zealous Christians.

They tell us to slow down.

God has so much work for us to do, but He will only call us and use us once we get up and stop being lazy.  He wants us to be slow and sure, but to be moving a lot faster than one inch a day.
