Isaiah 27:1
“In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.”
In the King James Version of the Bible, “Leviathan” refers to a powerful sea creature described in several passages, most notably in Job 41, Isaiah 27:1, and Psalm 74:14. It is depicted as a multi-headed serpent, a great dragon, or a fearsome beast that can only be subdued by God. Only God, not us!
There are several ‘theories’ about Leviathan. (BTW, the word ‘theory’ is just a fancy way to say ‘guess’). Some say it was a demon in the sea. Others say it’s a giant dragon snake in the ocean. I always assumed it was a dinosaur. But my pastor in Mexico, Gordon Wilmot, thinks it’s a Nile crocodile and I think he’s right. Why?
1. Because it’s a real, visible demon. God wouldn’t have mentioned it if it wasn’t.
2. Crocodiles kill by twisting.
3. The crocodile and the Nile River are more familiar to these people than any ocean, and the Bible was written to the common people.
Leviathan is a demon sent by Satan. Satan is the prince of the air. His main job is to kill the communication of the saints by twisting the truth. That’s why everything that comes through airways like news, tv, facebook and TikTok is twisted like fulfilling a satanic agenda. That’s why your phone call drops when you are praying on the phone or counseling someone about spiritual things.
Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Satan is a liar. He hates truth, because Jesus is truth. He uses Leviathan to twist the truth to kill the message just like a crocodile twists his prey until they get stuck under a tree trunk or something and drown.
Satan kills communication between the brethren and it causes evil divisions. Look at denominations where believers argue with each other. That’s the first thing you make as a target in combat. The Commo ‘Communication’!
For example, I said grab the blue to Winnie (my wife, partner in ministry and Christian sister in everything), and she heard orange, so grabbed the orange one. Even if I take great pains to pronounce it right, she heard wrong or was half listening. It happens, and it always causes problems, as an end result. God despises miscommunication, Satan loves it.
Miscommunication happens to me in English when I’m talking to English speakers as well. A friend once invited me to a Pastor’s conference two years ago. I was happy to go, just to hang out. I am starved for fellowship down here. The majority of my Christian fellowship in Nicaragua are people I won to the Lord and have discipled over the past 30 years. Grow your own fellowship. Well, unbeknownst to me, my friend asked the Pastor who owned the church (and conference) if I could teach in the conference, and the pastor said no. Which was fine by me, I wasn’t looking to teach, I was wanting just to learn, and have fellowship. Well, my buddy only told me, ‘Hey! About that conference? Talked to the Pastor and he said forget about it’. So I was bummed for two years, thinking the pastor didn’t want me to hang out with his guys. Leviathan had a field day on that one, but God broke Leviathan’s fearsome teeth.
Job 41:14 “Who dares open the doors of its mouth, ringed about with fearsome teeth?”
Other verses mention breaking enemies’ teeth in a symbolic sense,
Psalm 3:7: “Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked”
Have you ever noticed that your words get twisted sometimes in mid-air? When your brethren go to war with you because they misunderstood your words? Happens to me all the time, and very little of it has to do with my bad spanish. It’s spiritual.
How do you fight Leviathan? THE BIBLE SAYS YOU CAN’T!
1. Pray for God to deal with it, in this case you can’t.
2. Be calm, love and don’t react.
3. Repeat yourself IF THEY WEREN’T PAYING ATTENTION and make sure they understand.
4. Trust in the Lord, Romans 8:28
5. Persevere
Don’t get angry or sucked into a fight. They honestly believe that you said it (whether you did or not, it doesn’t matter because it was twisted). It’s spiritual so they will never believe you. Leave it with the Lord. Remember, just walk in love. Respond, don’t react.
If you are actually winning souls, Leviathan will raise His ugly head against you. If you aren’t, he won’t. If you’re a true workman, you will have to deal with Leviathan’s fearsome teeth sooner or later. Just don’t sweat it when it happens. Satan is already defeated, Jesus wins in the end, I read the end of The Book.
Psalm 74:14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
