1. Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
The Bible stresses the need of two or three witnesses. Besides the three witnesses about adding or subtracting from the Bible that are found in its pages, I have always been keenly aware of this warning in my Spirit. Whenever anyone has a ‘word of prophecy’ for me, I steer away. I know a guy who has been telling me for the past eleven years to ‘get my house in order’ like an old testament prophet. If God isn’t showing you in His Word and in His Spirit, He’s not giving you that prophecy. The Bible says if a prophet is 99% right, and misses one prophecy, he should be stoned to death. God takes adding and subtracting from the Bible very seriously. When someone prophecies they are adding to the Words of God.
At PureHeartPre-K and my home church, we are very careful to teach God’s Word, and God’s Word only. Everyone wants to hear from a ‘prophet’ what God says. Good or bad, don’t listen.
Jeremiah 6:14-15 NIV They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all.
Prophets basically stopped when the Bible was completed. People still have ‘words of wisdom’ I believe, but it’s nothing extra Biblical.
A prophet by definition is someone who extols the Word of God. Now we have it. Don’t add to it.
I have thoughts that may or may not be from the Lord. Then a brother comes along and admonishes me with something along those lines. Then I read something affirming it as well. Always, it’s about me or my personal ministry, never about others, (God isn’t a gossip). Be careful with ‘prophets’ or false sects that change the Word of God. There’s a lot of them.
2. Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
The Word of God is more than enough! I can’t keep up with what is in it, let alone add to it. Don’t add to it. I’ve heard preachers build cases for racism, for example. Black and white. Race is not ever mentioned in the Bible! Why add to it? It only causes division. Preachers are out there saying dancing, smoking and movies is prohibited in the Bible. Never is the case.
The left proudly preaches that Jesus was a commie based on 3 verses from Acts 2. But if you continue to read more Acts you’ll see that it’s a lie. Once people were involved it was nothing more than a giant Amway pyramid scheme. A few people always get rich, the rest impoverished. Communism never works. It’s not in the Bible. Jesus knows that, He knows our hearts. He was never a socialist or communist. The Bible and its context are always enough. Run from people who add to it. We tend to add to it ourselves. “God Helps those who help themselves” and “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” are prime examples of what I say. May God be true and every man a liar. Romans 3:4
Last but not least, don’t take away from the Word of God. Homosexuals say that Romans 1 doesn’t mean what it says. Jehovah’s Witnesses say that Jesus never said He was God. Muslims say that God can not be born. 7th Day Adventists say we don’t worship on the 8th day, Resurrection Sunday (like the early church did in the Bible). They say that we must keep the Lord’s day like in the Old Testament. (what day is that exactly? Only one in a 7 chance of guessing which day is the Lord’s day. God didn’t use a Roman calendar when He created the earth and the heavens.) All of them are taking away from the words that God said. Even Satan said Surely you won’t die if you eat this fruit Genesis 3:2-6
