CROSS

PureHeart091115Don’t let your belief in the cross come across as making you cross.   More specifically, don’t make others cross because they think that you are cross. The message of the CROSS alone  can make others feel uncomfortable.  There is no need to pollute it’s power with our feeble feelings.

This weekly blog is a  journal of my life as a Christian Missionary.  Any similarities to any one else is purely coincidental.  Lot’s of people take offense, thinking I am writing AT them.. I am not.  This is an introspective look at myself and my beliefs ,or lack of belief, as I go through the necessary, but cumbersome, processes that get in the way while trying to help people to love God and to make Him known to others.  Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the awesomeness of this opportunity, but most of the time just simply overwhelmed.  There are lots of costs, lots of labor, and lots of energy that goes into impacting around 200 lives on a daily basis for the Cause of the Cross.  All way more than the resources and means I have. I do not think I possess enough  to get me through any given day, but   God is bigger than my self imposed limits.

Many times, people have said that I look angry when I talk about Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross.  I then get a glimpse of my reflection in a mirror as I am talking about Jesus, or a picture of me, and yes,  I looked cross. Aside from bad genetics, financial worries and my struggle with the Spanish language, our faces are a reflection of the soul.  It concerns me that I put on the ugly face when I talk about Jesus’ ultimate act of Love for us, the unlovable.  The Bible in Proverbs says a Happy Heart makes the face beautiful.  True that! Just look at the face of a pregnant newly wed deeply in love! YOWZA!  Her face actually glows!

The the beauty of the old rugged cross has been misrepresented for centuries by terrorists such as:

-The Inquisitions

-The Conquistadores

-The Cruzaders

-The KKKers

-The Nazies

-The people from Westboro Baptist Church

When I first became a believer, I embraced anyone wearing a cross because I felt that they were true believers. God is Love, the Cross is a symbol of that Love. Sadly it is a representative of hate as well when people wearing crosses, holding Bibles, are spewing out hatred. My grandfather would not wear a cross because he did not feel worthy to wear a cross.   He probably WAS worthy.  He understood what it meant.   He didn’t want to put it to shame as others do.  For example, someone with a bumper sticker on their car or a T shirt saying Jesus Loves You, while offending everyone they  come into contact with. Oil and water can not be mixed.  You can not mix love with hate. It comes out weird.

I was taught as a young Christian that in order to avoid sin, one needed to stay as far away from the LINE as possible.  As long as you stay away from the LINE, you will never cross it. AS I grew in faith however,I learned that there was more than one line.  As I run from the sin line in one direction, I find myself crossing yet another sin line in the opposite direction.  Running from the lures of sin can put you into another sin quite easily.  Instead of lusting, perhaps you cross the line of lying.  To keep from stealing, you run so far that you begin to covet.  Or worse yet, you cross line of hatred and murder, by beginning to hate those who you don’t think are as holy as you are.  You then fall into the sin that made Jesus furious, religious pride.
The key to the Cross is dying.  Dying to your desires. Even killing the desire to win the argument or to prove that you are right.  Jesus told us to pick up our crosses and to follow Him.  Not to pick up the cross and preach angrily, but to follow Him. It is easy to follow Him.   If you talk angrily  about anything, you are not following Him. He is Love.  The love of Christ constrains us.here is this week as we are serving the living Christ…
