N.O.! (Never Override)

The words to the youtube song is ‘this little finger went to church, this little finger did not, this little finger sang praises to God,this little finger did not, but this little finger said Glory to God.’ It`s all a choice to either say ´yes´ or ´no´.

The older I get, the more I learn that life is bi-nary. No such thing as luck, or even grey areas. On or off. Yes or no. Present or absent. Choose to, or choose not to. Obey, disobey. The result of our individual lives are a result of our binary answers. It is really that easy. When you say yes, fully go with that decision. No turning back. When you say no, go with that decision. No turning back. Yes to God is always a given. It’s the easy answer, and easier to do. ‘No’ to the things against God are the tough ones because they usually go against your flesh. Sometimes you have to yell NO! to drown out the insistent pleas of your flesh. If THAT doesn´t work, you just have to run.

Genesis 39:11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

Take a moment and really think about this. Joseph was a convict in Egypt, doing time. He was in the prime of his youth. Potiphar (his master) was a captain of Pharaoh’s guard. Wealthy, powerfulmen usually have a wife that is gorgeous. She tried to seduce him. Joseph could have thought about it. Even justified it. But He said ‘yes’ to God and a ‘no’ to sin. He was brutal with his own sin, not with Potipehar’s wife. He ran, like any person with a strong ‘yes’ to follow God would do. The ‘yes’ has to be stronger and louder than the ‘no’.

The desire to serve, obey and to praise God has to come from your heart, your inner man. It has to be stronger than your desire for the things of this world. Your reason has to be a love for God, not just to fulfill the requirements to be a pastor or a missionary. I only want to be in the presence of God with a clean conscience. This my why I say ‘yes’ to God and try to say ‘no’ to other things.

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Praise of God? Wow! Never saw that before.

It´doesn´t have to look bad or even seem important to worry about one way or other. But if God nudges you to say no, say no. I never have been very good with saying ‘no’ to seemingly unimportant things. As a result, I have gotten into a lot of trouble, and still am paying the price. Self discipline and spiritual discipline go and in hand. If the Holy Spirit warns you about eating too many Twinkies and you can’t say ‘no’ when offered a Twinkie, how will you be able to say ‘no’ when you are tempted to sin?

Interesting seguey, but you´ll get it after reading this. The communist chinese spent 50 years trying to eradicate Budism from Tibet. Killing monks, burning temples, threatening people didn´t cut it. But those guys are brilliant. They decided put a successful communist chinese family into each tiny pueblo. They built beautiful homes for them with all the nice things like SUV´s, satelite tv, cel phones, internet. All the nice things of life. The poor tibetan children watched the wealthy kids with envy. As a result, they had no desire to follow the Budist tradicions. The Budist children fell in love with the worldly things instead of their ancient traditions. That was the kiss of death for Budism in Tibet. Stay in love with Jesus more than loving the things of this world.

Resumen – Just say ‘no’ to worldly desires and ‘yes’ to God. God doesn’t ask a lot from us.

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
