John 14:27 ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’
The word ‘world’ has a second meaning in the Bible. World also means people. People give you peace sometimes, however people can be fickle too. They say things that give you peace and reassurance but then don’t know who you are a year from now when you reach out to them. People can give you ‘shalom peace’ that lasts a little while, but it’s more of just a temporary belly rub. People cannot give you the peace that Jesus gives. The Greek word for peace is ‘Eirene’ is used in this verse. Eirene peace is supernatural peace, that is a condition with those of us who have a peace as if we are without problems. Our best witness to others is when the world comes crashing down around us, we have a peace that is ‘out of this world’. That peace a Christian has during a storm preaches to the lost more than any sermon.
Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
‘Out of this world’ means our supernatural lives. A life that is beyond this old tent that we inhabit while we are waiting to go to heaven. As a born-again Christian, I don’t get offended as easily as the rest of the world does anymore. I get scared, I get concerned, I am bothered by what I see, but I don’t get offended. I don’t go on the defense; I don’t have to win arguments. I don’t really care if people talk bad about me (I’m used to it actually). I have enemies, but they make me sad and hurt, not offended. There are people I prefer not to communicate with because they take what I say and twist it into something vile, but I am not offended. By not getting offended, I maintain peace. I am a lot more patient as well. Timing is of the Lord. Now there are times that that isn’t always possible, but I have an ‘out of the world’ desire to do so. I want to live in this world with the peace that Christ gives us. It would be so much easier to give them a piece of my mind! But I prefer giving others the peace of Jesus than the piece of my mind.
Romans 12:18. “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
In fact, a true Christian will love his enemies. That is 180 degrees out of phase, or ‘out of this world’ thinking. The ‘out of this world’ response is the exact opposite spirit of the worldly way unsaved people react. Worldly people will say a lame thing like ‘I forgive but I will never forget’. Jesus says to love ‘em. I state that it is impossible to love someone if you insist on remembering what they did to you. We can change the past! But it is only by forgiving and forgetting. Then, and only then, can you come up with supernatural ‘out of this world’ ways to tangibly show your enemies the love of Jesus and the way to heaven. Love the ugly, touch the untouchable. You can only do that if you are thinking ‘supernaturally’ ‘out of this world’.
Romans 12:20-21 ‘Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.’
Jesus teaches us that He will forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. When we are saved, we forgive because we know that we are forgiven in a supernatural way, an ‘out of this world’ way. We work with, and unconditionally love, all types of children and adults. Everyone. Those from the most disgusting and vile backgrounds, to the most successful and pure at heart. We evangelize them all, and most of the time it is received with skepticism. But that’s ok. Most of them aren’t saved. But that is ok, that’s why we do it. Actually, that’s the only reason I do it. It’s pretty ridiculous don’t you think, to evangelize a group of saved believers? I don’t condemn them because I am not condemned. How can you condemn another person who could very easily have been you if it hadn’t been for the grace of God? If you are truly saved, your entire life is a supernatural ‘out of the world’ experience, and you won’t react or respond like worldly people respond.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Other things that are supernaturally ‘out of this world’ Christians may do that the rest of the world doesn’t I have listed below. A Born-again Christian’s reward is that They Know that God is with them, and observing. That is enough. No one sees God. Hardly ever will we receive and audible or visions or signs. That’s why it’s called faith, without which it’s impossible to please God.
-Pray without ceasing alone, knowing that it works
-Not letting the right hand know what the left hand does
-Give in secret, as if to God
-Pray and Fast in secret, to hear from God
-Resist sin, even if you’re alone
-Resist bad thoughts, even if no one else knows
-Bite your tongue if it isn’t constructive or edifying
-Be truthful, even if it hurts
-Keep your promise, even if it hurts
-Don’t borrow, owe no man nothing but love
-love your enemies
-bless everyone you can with your own $, secretly
-bless people with your time and company, secretly
-be joyful, even when everyone is miserable around you
-be optimistic even though you’re surrounded by party poopers
-try to please the Lord as you go from one room to the other
-if God shows you to do something, do it, immediately, and don’t stop no matter what others tell you (If it’s from God. it will always be in line with the Scriptures). I blow it bad when I listen to the experts and don’t do what I knew God wanted me to do.
