PRIORITIES

2dec15 PRIORITIES

Everyone has priorities.

All priorities should change with time.
I caught myself shopping in Walmart a while back, dressed in jogging shorts, high dress black socks, and black wing tipped shoes.  A friend of mine said, “Free at last.”  When I was 17, I would have died before wearing something like that.  As time passes, my priorities change.  The changes in my priorities are that I care less and less of what men think of me and more and more about what God thinks of me.
Age changes our priorities.  Increased faith, which comes with time and age, changes our priorities.  God Himself changes our priorities.  Others change our priorities.  As we grow, suffer, help others, fail, win, get sick, grow old, our priorities change.  Time is the common denominator in our changes.
In my new faith there were things that I thought were the gravest of sins, which I don’t even think are very bad now.  There are things that I didn’t think were sins but now I see as the ugliest of sins.
Age and time bring beatings from life, when you attempt to do anything significant.  Beatings bring epiphanies.  Epiphanies bring changes in priorities.
I almost feel sorry for people who haven’t been ‘beaten up.’  The Bible in 1rst Corinthians 10:12 says to him who thinks he stands, take heed lest ye fall.  They think they are right and everyone else is wrong.   They aren’t careful, and they can fall. They think every thing is rosey, but they are on a highway to death. Worst off, they hurt a lot of people along the way. Beatings bring on the biggest change of priorities.  I feel fortunate that pastors and bosses have betrayed me and let me down.  I feel lucky to have people really tell me off, telling what they really think of me.  Those are all moments that you have to really kneel and talk to God.  I think God is responsible for those things that happen to you, to help you change your thinking around and restate your priorities.  Reject the bad things, receive the good.
Priorities bring revelation:
  • There are no such thing as the good guys and the bad guys
  • There are no good countries or bad countries
  • There are no good or bad people groups or races.
  • Opinions are worthless
  • Money is only for helping others.
  • David in his old age said: God, create in me a pure heart.
  • The older Pharisees walked away first when Jesus said: Whoever is without sin may cast the first stone.
  • Paul said: It’s all rags, I just want to know Jesus.
  • Solomon said: It’s all vanity.
  • Time is the great priority changer and vanity is a killer.
The biggest priority is LOVE.  People are so quick to get into arguments.  They love to be right.  Their priority is to look right.  But God knows our hearts and as in 1 Corinthians 13, if there isn’t LOVE, it’s just noise.
I don’t like repeating my stories and I have told this one a million times, but it’s applicable.  I have been to Cuba a lot.  I always receive epiphanies in Cuba.  God really rattles my cage when I’m there.    In Cuba, we had a spy in our church.  A man and his son killed a milk cow who had stopped giving milk and then they shared the meat with the church.  They were arrested for killing the cow  and they got 4 years in prison.  I knew who the spy was who turned them in.  I asked the pastor if he wanted me to tell him who I thought the informant was.  The pastor said, ‘Don’t tell me because I have to love him anyway.’
The pastor had his priorities right.  He had God’s priorities.  That is my goal.
I consider myself a failure at most things in my life.  But God says ‘Who cares what you did for me yesterday, what are you doing for me today?’
In my old age (I am 58 now), my priority is to have God’s pure LOVE.  A love for these children at our ministry.  A Love that they will remember forever and associate with God’s love for them.

He estado en Cuba muchas veces.
