Alexis is a professional guitarista out of Costa Rica, but he could not give me a straight answer. No one has ever been able to do so, to my satisfaction anyway. I am far from being any kind of musician, professional or otherwise, so what do I know?

Nicaraguan mornings have a music of their own. The girl selling cream, children laughing, old ladies gossiping, street dogs barking at something stupid, the farmer yelling at his oxen, flocks of parakeets tweeting happily as they flock over your head. All come together for a hymn more beautiful and God glorifying than Handel’s Messiah.

Children are music lovers. Probably because they haven’t been tainted by the world. I used to love Contemporary Christian Music, but I was dissappointed when I had the opportunity to meet some of the Dove award winners. There are some great Christian musicians out there, but not all, I think, are true God lovers. Children don’t care. They love the words, and learn from the words. Prisoners too. When I do prison ministry, I love children’s songs. The cons know them, it reminds me of the better days. Plus it teaches them the Word of God.

Nothing fancy. I wish more of my famous, God loving, Praise and Worship composers and stars would focus more on children’s songs rather than songs to appeal to hip pastors and flocks wearing their skinny jeans and pedicures. Kids will carry those truths with them their whole life, rather than just as long as it is on the top twenty Christian hit parade. I think the musicians would be better off in the long run too.
