Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
God created the world and the universe in 6 days. On the 7th day He rested (Saturday). He started everything on Sunday. Sunday is the day of New Beginnings. Saturdays were the Old Testament day of rest because God rested on the seventh day. A week is seven days. Most Christians celebrate Sundays, Christ’s resurrection day, as the day of rest. The day of new beginnings, the first day of the week.
Jesus didn’t come to fulfill the law but to complete it.
Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them
Jesus is my rest, I rest in Him, my rest is doing what He wants me to do, I find much peace and ease in that. I am not a big holiday guy. I don’t really worry about days or holidays or events. I don’t worry about them because Paul in the book of Galatians tells us not to.
Galatians 4:9-10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am.
I do what God wants me to do, when He wants me to do it. I don’t pay attention to days. That’s Winnie’s job! (Haha). But my friend in Virginia told me about a Ted talk show that he saw. The average human being gets 4000 weeks of life. Minutes, days, months, hours or minutes don’t really register with me. But, 4,000 weeks really made me think. Some people get more weeks. Some people get a few less weeks, but 4000 weeks (76 years) is about the average.
$4,000 dollars sounds like a lot of money right? But if that’s all you had for the rest of your life, it’s not very much. You would be careful with every penny. No one is limited to $4,000 for a lifetime, but everyone is limited to 4,000 weeks. So we should make every second count.
The question is, how do you want to spend those 4,000 weeks? In the Spirit or in the Flesh. Seeking to please yourself? Or do you want to spend your limited 4,000 weeks seeking to please God? You know your motivations, if they are in the Spirit or in the flesh. It’s easy to know. If you are in the Spirit you are guided by love, you really don’t care if anyone else is watching. You will have joy and peace. There is a heavenly reward because you are doing what God wants you to do. God never asks us to do things in the flesh. There is no reward for doing things in the flesh, ever. You will get a moment of pleasure or applause by others, but that’s it.
So, How do we spend our 4,000 weeks for God? By Deciding to do it. There are steps to take to spend our remaining weeks for God. At 65 years old, weeks are zipping by like telephone poles when you’re driving 120 miles an hour. My weeks are running out. I may be down 600 weeks!! I don’t think so, I feel like I have another 3000 weeks in me, but 600?? Yikes! How do we maximize our remaining weeks?
1. Forget the weeks you have already wasted.
2. Surrender your life to Jesus. Believe on Him in your heart, and Confess Him with your heart. You will be saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.
3. Ask for a fresh infilling of God’s Holy Spirit every day.
4. Put on joy, thanksgiving, worship, faith and praise every morning as soon as you wake up. (Whether you feel like it or not). It’s like if you’re cold, you put on a jacket to warm up. The same thing with joy, thanksgiving, worship, faith and praise. Put them on, even if you don’t want to and you’ll warm up.
5. Plug into a body of believers.
6. Others. Serve and love others. We serve hundreds of children and their families. Lots of different kinds of people need to be served and loved.
7. Be gracious. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Grace two times in the Bible. Grace in the concordances literally means to bend over backwards for people that are beneath you. In other words, no one is beneath you when you have the Spirit of Grace in you.
