The message of today is about Beauty.
Psalm 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
My biggest regret in life was not teaching my own children how to fully throw themselves into the worship of the Lord, because it’s still difficult even for me. Hard to let my guard down, especially in ‘church’, or around some of the ‘brethren’ for some reason. Pray that I get over this, and that my kids have Godly workers in the their lives too.
There are many ways to worship God, to give Him value. Reading the Bible mostly, hearing sermons (listening to Him *hearing AND doing*) and praying are huge. Be careful though, I think I have discourage many people because they can’t keep up in rigid Bible study. Plus you usually have to believe in God first before you believe the Bible.
There are other ways of worship, besides reading the Bible, praying and listening to normal Praise and Worship. Telling Jesus you love Him. Evangelizing, staring at stars at night, pre-dawn surf patrols, sharing about Him, blessing others in His name are all ways of worshipping the one true God. There are many other ways, like admiring His beauty in rainstorms, bad days, good days, it’s all perfect if you look for God’s beauty.
Even heathen songs like ‘my sweet Lord’, ‘personal Jesus’, and ‘Jesus is just alright with me’ have impacted some of my heathen friends in a serious way towards receiving and accepting Jesus into their lives (even though they were intended to be for another god or satires) some God haters turned into Jesus worshippers). One dear lady I know got radically saved watching Saturday Night Live. The Word of God, and truths about His character, never comes back void. The one true God is beautiful, perpetually.
The Beauty of His holiness…. Wow. Only His holiness is perfectly beautiful. Only His beauty is eternal. Old folks homes are full of ex-beauty queens, great surfers and star quarterbacks. Their beauty marks turned into skin cancer, ther blond bangs are now silver widow’s peaks, and their bulging biceps have turned into bags of fat under their triceps.
Excercise and beauty creams don’t help either. Dick VanDyke said he worked out when he was 30 to stay handsome. When he was 40, just to stay in the game. When he was 50 and 60, to stay healthy. When he was 70 for mobility. When he was 80 to stay out of assisted living. Now at 90 he works out just out of orneriness.
Beauty fades fast, unless it’s the Lord’s beauty. Even beautiful friendships and organizations end. Beautiful love that parents have for each other and for their children ends, if nothing else than by their deaths. Whether the parents die at 60 or 120, it’s only a short time. The only thing that doesn’t stop is the ever lasting beauty of the Lord.
Everlasting is a long time. God has everlasting love for us. He has everlasting grace and mercy for those who truly fear Him. Worshipping (giving worth) the beauty of the Lord is only part of the command. Part 2 is to fear Him. (also giving worth).
You worship God by both admiring His beauty and fearing His wrath. People are fearful of a lot of things. Fearful of the absolute stupidity of corruption of their ‘leaders’. Of ‘plagues’. Of the Cubans, Venezolanos, Chinese and Russians. (Some of my friends are Cubans, Venezolanos, Chinese and Russians). If you fear bad weather, COVID or China, you are worshipping them. You worship what you fear. I fear the living God. The whole world should.
Worship only God’s beauty and fear only Him, and everything else will fall into shape. We teach the kids at PureHeartChildren’sFund that. How? By thanking God for everything (in from of them)! By teaching them how beautiful His love is in a not so pretty surrounding. By fearing only Him. Not to fear weather. Storms. Hunger. Poverty. Bad people. But by teaching them to pray and to respect.
Since we put more emphasis on fearing only Him we have not had one murder among them (almost 3 years now! Worship the beauty of the Lord because His beauty is supernatural.
This is how to worship God. Remember, the common Bible has only been around for one tenth of Christianity. 200 out of 2000 years. People changed the world without one in their hands. They set the world upside down by their faith, love and joy.
1 Chronicles 16:29-31
Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.
Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”
