Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
I planned to write about joy this week, but this seems to have more urgency in my heart. With the rapid deterioration of America, I believe we all better get ready for the next era. We need to be more like Jesus asap. One way to resemble Christ’s image is to not walk around being abrasive.
Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Just because you have an idea it doesn’t mean you have to say it or post it on Facebook. Ponder it in your heart for a while. If it is from God, you won’t be able to contain it. Joseph had a dream, he knew it was going to get him into trouble, but he couldn’t contain it any more. God needed for him to spit it out, and God used it.
Genesis 37:5-11 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us?
He got into big trouble for saying what God had put on his heart. But God needed for this to happen to set things in motion. Usually God wants us to keep our thoughts to ourselves though. People (including pastors) on social media especially need to remember this. If you are planning something, keep it to yourself. Ponder it, don’t talk about it (unless you’re a public non profit and want to raise funds or need volunteers).
Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
One time Pastor Chuck Smith was about to perform a wedding ceremony. He noticed that in front of the church, there was a huge mud puddle. Obviously a storm drain[s sewage filter was too wide and let a large piece of something through, causing it to clog. Chuck took off his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeve, stuck his hand down the drain and pulled out a old piece of carpet. Stood up. Dried off his arm, rolled down his sleeve, put on his suit jacket and performed the ceremony, haha. The sewage drain filter opening was too wide. Bad stuff got in. A Godly man got it out.
Stephen King wrote once “The mind is like a filter. The bigger the filter, the greater the amounts of input into your mind. The finer the filter, the less amount of inputs. My mind, unlike a kitchen sieve, is more like a sewage filter letting anything in”.. No wonder!!! I believe it! Have you seen his movies and books?
2 Cor 10:9 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Filter you mind by guarding your thoughts! Philippians 4:4-9 is the best spiritual filter there is.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
What we actually know about anything, or anyone, including family members, is so minuscule that we really need to strive to keep our comments and opinions (unsolicited advice) to ourselves. Our filter needs to be like a coffe pot micro filter. Specifically, guard our minds. jAnd guard our mouths or our texts on social media. Refer to the 1/5second newsletter. You have 1/5second to THINK (another newsletter) about if it is thoughtful, helpful, intelligent, needed AND most importantly, kind. If it is, say it. If not, don’t! It’ll save your relationships and testimony.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
I don’t see where it says for pastors to potty talk about other pastors on Facebook or any other public forum. Sure, if one of your sheep has a question, or your congregation seems affected by false teachings, sure! Preach it from your own pulpit, to your own people but not from fb. Many famous Calvary Chapel pastors (a very solid, Bible grounded church) have said to me in confidence that they got saved by watching people like Benny Hinn and Katherine Kuhlmann on TV. God does indeed ‘use the foolish things to confound the wise’. However, just because I don’t agree with most televangelists Biblically, I will not cause a new believer to stumble by making him doubt his salvation. You ever notice that when a pastor attacks another ministry, they do it out of anger? Not out of love? God calls us to do all things with love. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide him, not our unfiltered tongue.
Matthew 18:6 If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be thrown into the sea
When you vomit whatever pops up in your mind, not only do you make yourself look stupid, and devaluate the value of your words, but people will be afraid to confide in you. As it is, even with normal, sane people, if you whisper something top secret to someone of confidence, 25 people will eventually hear about it. And it comes out wrong every time (haha)! Don’t talk if you have nothing of value to say. It will be repeated. Even jokes aren’t worth it, unless they are REALLY FUNNY. But don’t be uncomfortable with silence. If they’re friends, they won’t need to be entertained.
Proverbs 10:9 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise
Winnie is extremely wise. Probably brilliant. But she doesn’t say much, not even in Spanish. But when she says something (very quietly to boot), everyone stops and listens. No one trusts anyone who speaks whatever is on his mind to the next poor souls that comes into his path. In fact, it’s often a sign of mental illness if a person feels compelled to tell everyone what is going through his mind. It surprises me that so many pastors on fb feel compelled to do it on social media. FB isn’t our flock. It’s a vast ocean of people who need to hear about Jesus, not listen in on Bible wars.
James 3:8-14 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Be careful little eyes and ears what you listen to and look at. Be careful little tongue what you say
