1 John 3:1 what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
I was criticized recently for not doing things the way Billy Graham did them. Guess what? I’m only Dean, not Billy Graham. I have a different set of flaws and skills than Billy Graham had. His past and my past are completely different. His resources and mine are not nearly the same. His genetics, finances, upbringing, attractiveness, eloquence, self-discipline, walk with the Lord, education, dedication has me beat in every way. But I saw him once. In person. I looked directly at him, he looked at me. I waved. He didn’t wave back. I am sure he had a lot on his mind that was a lot more important than me. But I don’t think it is possible for me not to acknowledge someone who waved at me. It’s in my wiring to wave back.
We’re all different. I stoop down and hug filthy street kids. Lots of people don’t. Most people don’t. We are all different. I hug a snot faced sick kid. Winnie shares with little old opinionated ladies for hours on end. We all have our super-powers, pros and cons.
My first day on the mission field a deranged man in a crowded 3rd world bus asked me in perfect English ‘who are you’? At that moment, I remembered immediately the morning after I was saved. I heard (maybe audibly) ‘wake up child of God!!’ My name is Dean, not Billy Graham. Billy and I are totally different in all ways except for who we are. We are both ‘sons of God’. We will both be worshipping God forever.
We had a first time visitor here last week (hopefully first of many many times). First day here, she was asked ‘who are you’? That shocked me. Isn’t that an interesting question? Almost confrontational, always spiritual. I immediately remembered the first day I was down here. Who are we? We are sons of God.
When people ask you who you are, what is your answer? They are not asking your name. They are not saying hi. They are challenging your authority. There are only 2 answers. I hope you are a son of God. How do you know?? By who leads you.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Christianity isn’t a sometime thing. It’s an all the-time-thing or it’s no-thing
No such thing as part-time Christians. Who are you? A son of God or a son of Satan?
Jesus entered triumphantly today. 4 days later the same people that cried Hosanna will cry ‘Crucify Him! give us Barabbas’. People are fickle. Don’t trust ’em. Trust Jesus
