16dec15 QUIT
Galatians 6:9, Let us not lose heart in doing good.
The enemy always whispers ‘quit’ to the genuine ‘do gooders’. Truly doing good things *real good things, no imaginary ‘good’ things* is very hard. VERY VERY hard as a matter of fact. Quitting is always an option as well. Quitting is bad, right? Well, not always.
I saw a bumper sticker saying, ‘rehab is for quitters.’ It was pretty funny, but it startled me with a revelation… QUITTING ISN’T ALWAYS BAD! WOW, I never knew!! Rehab is a good thing. I have had friends in rehab their whole life it seems. While the term quitter is the worst word I can think of, someone who quits a bad habit or sin is doing a good thing. So quitting isn’t always bad.
A quitter can mean either a spineless coward or a HERO. Interesting, isn’t it? BOTH the spineless coward AND the hero *in all reality*are terrified. Both are upset, in very bad situations. The only difference is the out come. The hero sees it through to the end, the coward runs away. I have been both. It feels a lot better after the fact to be the hero than the coward.
The fact that I like being a hero more than being a coward comes at a price. 99% of the bad things that have happened in my life have happened because I don’t know how to quit.
As the book of Ecclesiastes says, there is a time for everything. I believe there is a time to quit. It is God’s timing though, not ours. When you ‘want to quit’ and it makes sense, I can promise you that is not the appropriate time. God will tell you when and if it is time to quit. Until then, full steam ahead!
The problem with quitting, isn’t the act in itself, it is failing to listen to God and His timing. Quitting is good only if it’s God’s timing and only if it’s for His glory. John the Baptist said, He must increase, but I must decrease JTB took himself out of the equation, so the full focus would be on our Lord. He quit for the sake of the the Kingdom of God. Quitting for GOD is strength if it is in God’s timing and will. Quitting is weak if it is your timing and your lack of will.
I pray that God never tells me to quit on these kids, but I know He will someday in the distant future *hopefully*. We all have seasons. Sometimes it’s just to be a fire starter. People have sent me down roads with all the vim and vigor in the world, only to peter out after a very short time, but THEY WERE USED BY GOD TO GET SOMETHING STARTED, THEN STUFF HAPPENED AND THEY QUIT, BUT THEY WERE USED OF GOD TO GET US WHERE WE ARE! God is amazing how He uses us, and how He knows what is best. One thing to NEVER EVER QUIT IS TRUSTING GOD AND HIS WISDOM. Some people who quit on us would have been a disaster if they had stayed on. God used them for a season, and God will bless them for that.
I pray that when that time comes for me to quit, God says, Well done, good and faithful servant!
God will fill the desires of your heart if you are chasing after Him and His will. YOU WILL THINK ABOUT QUITTING, but wait a moment and that feeling will pass. THAT happens to me every single day, I know!
