Reckless

 Luke 15:4
Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?

Times must have changed. I don’t know of anyone who would risk 99 things because he lost 1 thing.  If an accountant for example were to loose 99 cents because he lost a penny and went looking for it, he would be fired for being reckless.

Jesus kind of makes me laugh here.  I think He sublimely tells how we should love like Him.  We shouldn’t have any problems though, because if we are new creatures in Him, we have His mind.

1 Corinthians 2:16
But we have the mind of Christ.

Jesus loves like that so He knows that His followers can love like that too.  It is expected of us.  Jesus is recklessly in love with the 1, and will leave the 99 until He finds him.  Us believers were all that ‘one’ in our past.  Many are called, few are chosen!

The Son of God is recklessly in love with us, and I praise Him for that, and want to recklessly love Him in return.  The way to do that is to recklessly love othersin His Name.

Reckless love makes people do crazy things.  I saw a 300 lb. lady jump a foot in the air and do the hundred yard dash in under 10 seconds (or so it seemed) to protect her baby.  I’ve seen teenaged boys and girls do some pretty stupid things in the name of love as well.

As a Christian we have even a stronger love because it isn’t ours, it’s Jesus’.

2 Corinthians 5:14
For the love of Christ constraineth us;

In Christ’s love we continuously will do things that aren’t politically correct, wise, or prudent in the eyes of our fellow man, fellow believers, churches and even missions.  We should do them though, because we follow a recklessly loving God.  A fanatic Himself, if you will, for us.

Jesus talked to the prostitutes and drunks in His day.  He crazily loved them and wanted them to spend eternity with them.  He wants us to do the same, with the same abandonment.  Everyone assumes the worse.  People love thedrama.  The religious Pharisees called him a whoremonger and a drunk because he talked to these ‘sinners’.  Jesus never called a sinner ‘sinner’ by theway.

There a little group of transvestite prostitutes on a street corner that I share theGospel with on a regular basis.  You should hear what people call me when they drive by and see an old gringo talking to a bunch of guys in hot pants and miniskirts.  I also talk to fat people, so the people call me FAT and a glutton as well!!!  Can you imagine that?  Gluttony is a sin by the way.

While I don’t like people calling me names, I have to decide if being called a name is a result of being led by the Spirit of God.  If so, so be it.  More than worth it.

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

We should worry a lot more about what God thinks about us than what people think about us.  It will make us a little more reckless by putting things in the right perspective.

I think world missions would be a lot more effective if we imitated God’s reckless love instead of Good Logical Business Plans on how to ‘love‘ properly.

Some people like us.  Our spouses and kids love us.  Most people just barely tolerate is.  God loves us RECKLESSLY, however.

Whether we are popular or not.  This same recklessness is what the world is waiting to see in the followers of God.

I love this song because it reminds me of God’s reckless love for us.
