Paul said he was glad that he learned both to be abased and to abound. Once Dean Jr said, ‘ok I have the abased part down pat, so when do we abound?’….
A popular myth is that there are two types of people out there. Givers or takers. Some give a lot. Others take a lot. But I don’t think that is true. Every time I try to label people, God seems to intentionally throw me a curve ball. Some of the neediest people I know are the biggest givers. Some of the worst givers I know have never taken anything from anyone. I may be impartial, but Christians are the most generous people out there. Because God gave us His Son.
God loves a cheerful giver. I recently had the unpleasant experience of a team that came down to give, but not cheerfully. Everyone . Although the intentions were ‘probably’ right, it was waste of time and resources. God was not glorified.
I have been labeled a giving addict. I love giving. I haven’t always been that way. I am a taker as well. There is nothing wrong with taking to bless others. Not ‘Robin Hood’ style taking but receiving in order to pass along. When Winnie handed a little girl in the above video,a box of fresh new crayons and a bar of soap she shrieked with delight. Everyone laughed. It was fun. I live for that.
Looking back, it all started when the Lord GAVE me, and I received a new life, a second chance, a clean slate. That´s why Winnie and I do what we do. We want to give that opportunity to these little guys. It is sad that a toddler needs a 2nd chance but that´s how it is. Freely we give, freely we receive. Life is so much easier when you TAKE from it to GIVE to others. It’s not ALWAYS about money. It’s about giving of yourself, your time, your resources and your love to others who will receive it. You can not be a giver if there are no takers. You truly can not GIVE joyfully if you have never RECEIVED joyfully.
