EPHESIANS 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
God has already has provided everything we need— all the salvation and blessings we will ever need are in the finished work of Jesus. We as mature Christians should be more specific when we pray, and more joyous. Especially when times are tough! We should be like sponges filled with joy, and when pressed, we joyously pray specific things for ourselves and others, always with faith and expectancy.
Before I learned to speak Spanish, I could only say God Bless You (Dios te bendiga). Seemed back then I had a lot more fruit only saying that, because I was joyfully sincere and couldn’t get into theological arguments. As we grow in Christ however, and in languages, we realize there are many more needed things to express. God’s blessings are great and needed, but everyone has specific needs as well.
Since that time, I feel that saying things like ‘God bless you’, ‘blessed’ and ‘blessings’ seems to have become cliche. Sometimes people write me notes that only say ‘blessings!’ Kind of makes my neck hairs stand on end. How do you respond to that? What does that specifically does that mean? Usually it means that they are thoughtlessly trying to sound spiritual.
God can’t answer a request to do something that He has already done. He has already done everything needed to bless and save us through Jesus.
We have been given a vocabulary to pray specifically. For the unsaved we shouldn’t pray ‘save so-and-so’. Jesus already died and resurrected to save them. He already gave them the possibility to be saved. We should pray instead for God to send real Christians into their lives to lead them. Also that God would enlighten their minds and take the blinders off of their spiritual eyes.
EPHESIANS 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
When praying for Christians we tend to lazily say, “bless so-and-so” yet we don’t find where anyone in the Bible ever prayed that way. That kind of praying really doesn’t do much good; it only salves our conscience and makes us feel we’ve prayed. Paul was really the best in teaching us to pray for others. He said,
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment.—Philippians 1:9
That’s a good way to pray for Christians, isn’t it? Paul is praying for believers. He’s praying for others to become more effective. That is something God can still do. When you pray for us at PureHeart, pray like Paul did, specifically for more wisdom for us as we minister to the beautiful children at Pureheart Pre-k and the feeding centers.
COLOSSIANS 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
This is Paul’s prayer for the Church at Colosse, and hopefully yours for PureHeartChildren.org. If we are filled with the knowledge of His Will, then we’re going to know what all these blessings are with which the Father has blessed us.

Bendiciones
EFESIOS 1: 3 Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien nos ha bendecido con todas las bendiciones espirituales en los lugares celestiales en Cristo.
Dios ya ha provisto todo lo que necesitamos: toda la salvación y las bendiciones que necesitaremos están en la obra terminada de Jesús.
Antes de aprender a hablar español, solo podía decir Dios te bendiga. Parecía que en ese entonces tenía mucha más fruta solo diciendo eso, porque era sincero y no podía entrar en argumentos teológicos. Desde entonces, decir cosas como ‘Dios te bendiga’, ‘bendecido’ y ‘bendiciones’ parece haberse convertido en un cliché. A veces la gente me escribe notas que solo dicen ‘¡bendiciones!’ Algo que me pone los pelos de punta. Como respondes a eso? ¿Qué significa eso específicamente?
Dios no puede responder a una solicitud de hacer algo que ya ha hecho. Él ya ha hecho todo lo necesario para bendecirnos y salvarnos a través de Jesús. Se nos ha dado un vocabulario para orar específicamente.
Para los que no son salvos, no debemos orar “salvar a fulano de tal”. Jesús ya murió y resucitó para salvarlos. Ya les dio la posibilidad de ser salvados. Deberíamos orar para que Dios envíe cristianos verdaderos a sus vidas para guiarlos. También que Dios iluminaría sus mentes y quitaría las vendas de sus ojos espirituales.
EFESIOS 1:17 Para que el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el Padre de gloria, pueda darte el espíritu de sabiduría y revelación en el conocimiento de él: 18 Los ojos de tu entendimiento son iluminados; para que sepáis cuál es la esperanza de su llamado, y cuáles son las riquezas de la gloria de su herencia en los santos.
Cuando oramos por los cristianos, tendemos a decir perezosamente “bendiga a los demás”, pero no encontramos dónde alguien en la Biblia haya orado de esa manera. Ese tipo de oración realmente no hace mucho bien; solo es para nuestra conciencia y nos hace sentir que hemos orado. Paul fue realmente el mejor en ensenarnos para orar por los demás. Él dijo,
Y esto oro, para que tu amor abunde aún más y más en conocimiento y en todo juicio. —Filipenses 1: 9
Esa es una buena manera de orar por los cristianos, ¿no? Pablo está orando por los creyentes. Está orando para que otros se vuelvan más efectivos. Eso es algo que Dios todavía puede hacer.
