1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief”.
The word ‘chief’ here is often translated ‘worst’ in many other versions of the Bible.. Paul is saying here that he is the worst sinner out there. Yet, I know that Paul is in heaven, there’s nothing we can do to make God love us more, or less. If sinning sends us to hell, we’re saved by our own works. We are saved by faith not by works.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
The word ‘worst’ not only does not exist in the King James Bible, but it doesn’t exist period. It’s just an expression we use (except for liver and lima beans being the worst supper in the world)! ‘Worst’ does not exist. The word ‘Worse’ does. You can always find someone worse off. You can easily find a worse house, crime or job. We use ‘worst’, God doesn’t.
I have been told as a new believer that the sins of pride, homosexuality and murder were all individually called ‘the worst sin’. I weigh 216 lbs and need to be at 190 at least. I am obese, which is SIN! Gluttony is sin. I confess that I am guilty. Worthy of Hell Fire! How many pastors preach against gluttony, or being a cheapskate, or being uncaring, or lying about filling out forms correctly? I have never heard a sermon against those seemingly harmless things.
Here’s the thing. Mother Teresa of Calcutta India, the pope, Billy Graham, Adolph Hitler, me, Ozzy Osbourne and Osama Bin Laden are all equally condemned to eternal hell if they don’t accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
