Write!

Hab. 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it

Write it down!   In this case it was about an imminent invasion.   But whatever the case, writing down what comes  to your mind is a healthy practice.   It’s good for you mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

I very rarely have the time to reread what I write, but I find just the act of writing helps me tremendously, and others as well (I hope).

I really dislike reading the book of Jeremiah.   Seriously, I dread it!  When my ‘read through the Bible in a year’ program gets close to Jeremiah ‘the wailing prophet’, I really have to force myself.

Although the Book of Jeremiah contains some of the most precious jewels in the Bible for my life, it wearies my soul reading it, and casts a lot of doubt in my spiritual life.

Jeremiah is a sad prophet.  He probably needed psychological help.  As did my other favorites such as Spurgeon, Jonah, Luther, Wesley etc.   But through their anguish, they wrote and shared.   Because of their resolve, they blessed a lot of people, in spite of themselves, not because of them.

Jeremiah wrote the book  of Jeremiah.  He wrote for 40 years, warning Israel about the Babylonians. Jeremiah wrote to warn.   Jonas wrote to complain. John,  the disciple that Jesus loved, wrote to encourage.

Although John suffered a lot for Jesus, he didn’t have battles with depression.  He wrote to share Christ’s great love for us.   I like reading encouraging words better than bummer words.  That’s why I love reading the new testament (although the whole counsel of God is critical).   The Bible was written by the Holy Spirit, but He used 40 prophets to write 66 books over a span of 2000 years, in 3 or 4 continents, countless cultures and in 3, maybe 4 different languages.  All perfectly matched, for one message.   Jesus died for us.

Although I am not writing the Bible, I see the value of writing.   I think we as Christians should all write, if we can.

1 John 2:13-14 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked
