“Faith is acting like it is so, even when it is not so, so that it might be so, simply because God said so.” A quote from my friend Ulrik.
So… my son and his little friend got attacked by a rabid fox years ago. His little buddy got rabies from the bite and had to get shots. My son escaped unscathed. I asked him, “How did you escape?” He said, “I just did what I do when dinosaurs are in my room at night.” He continued to explain, “I just froze, held my breath and believed it wasn’t so until the danger passed.”
It worked! A good strategy for us all.
Pressing forward and believing that it is or isn’t ‘so’ works in all areas of our lives. In the physical as well as in the spiritual. Acting, or not when you aren’t sure, is a sign of wisdom and bravery,
Take salvation for instance. Sometimes, even when God‘s Word says you are saved, you may have doubts. This is a time when your faith has to take over your feelings. The enemy is trying to make you stumble by using your negative feelings to say to yourself ‘Well I am not saved so I might as well enjoy myself in sin.’ When that happens it is extremely important to ignore that evil thought of ‘it isn’t so’ and keep acting like ‘it is so’, you are saved. You’ll recover your faith soon enough.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
When God is telling you to do something, believe it and go full speed ahead. God will stop you if and when you heard wrong. Just be open to God‘s will.
If you think you are hearing from God and it lines up with the Scriptures, it may very well be from God. Take little steps. Then if you have a certainty growing in your heart that it is from God, act full speed ahead!
God will usually speak to you several times, through separate ways. For me it’s a combination of church sermons, Christian radio, music, listening in on another totally unrelated conversation, a memory, the Word, a gentle word from a truly humble brother, a thought that comes into your head while praying, or even sometimes from secular media.
I have never ever heard from God in an audible voice. When someone presumptuously tells you that the Lord told them something about you that has never crossed your mind, run! If they humbly, gently (almost nervously) suggest that it might be from God, listen. That person might be right, might be wrong, just listen. God will confirm, Trust Him! When you are as sure as you can be, run as hard as you can with it.
God knows your heart. You, and you alone, are responsible for how you handle it. If it is His will He will see you through, If not He won’t. Either way, it’s ok. He will let you know if it is or isn’t so.
I think right now it is critical for us missionaries to be hearing from Godcorrectly. With all the civil unrest here in Nicaragua, (and the rumors) we all are just holding our breath and believing it isn’t so, until the danger passes as well. So far, so good!
For good or bad, Winnie Sr and I are locked in for the duration. Both of our kids are safely in Ohio, going to school.
We believe that God called us to minister here. He called us specifically for a time like this. Right here, right now.
Pure Heart Pre-k, the feeding center in La Chureca, the feeding center and Winner club in the Winner Home are all open. There are real security concerns because of riots, but we continually and carefully render full ministry as much as we can.
We are still able to receive money for food, medicine, water and gasoline, although prices are higher.
We will continue acting and living in faith that this is only a temporary matter, (because the fact is, it’s all temporary anyway). We step out in faith feeding, teaching and helping the children that God has trusted us with.

Mi hijo y su pequeño amigo fueron atacados por un zorro rabioso hace años. Su pequeño amigo tuvo rabia por una mordida y tuvo que recibir inyecciones. Mi hijo escapó ileso. Le pregunté ‘¿cómo escapaste?’. Dijo: “Acabo de hacer lo que hago cuando los dinosaurios están en mi habitación por la noche”, continuó explicando, “Me quedé helado, contuve la respiración y creí que no era así hasta que pasó el peligro”.
¡Funcionó! Una buena estrategia para todos nosotros.
Andando hacia adelante y creyendo que es o no es así, funciona en todas las áreas de nuestras vidas. Tanto en lo físico como en lo espiritual.
Actuar, o no cuando no estás seguro, es un signo de sabiduría y valentía.
Toma la salvación, por ejemplo. A veces, aun cuando la Palabra de Dios dice que eres salvo, puedes tener dudas. Este es un momento en que su fe tiene que hacerse cargo de sus sentimientos. El enemigo está tratando de hacer que te tropieces al usar tus sentimientos negativos para decirte a ti mismo ‘bueno, yo no soy salvo, porque no desfrute el pecado?’ Cuando eso sucede, es extremadamente importante ignorar ese malvado pensamiento de “no es así” y seguir actuando como “así es”, ERES salvo. Recuperarás tu fe lo suficientemente pronto.
Santiago 4:7 Someteos, pues, a Dios. Resistid al diablo, y el huirá de vosotros.
Cuando Dios te dice que hagas algo, créelo y ve a toda velocidad. Dios te detendrá si oíste mal. Solo ábrete a la voluntad de Dios.
Lo último que necesitas es para personas bien intencionadas que te confunde. Eso puede hacerte tropezar. A menudo, cuando el enemigo se da cuenta de que no puede hacerte tropezar con tu propia charla negativa, usará seres queridos bien intencionados.
SI piensas que estás escuchando a Dios y se alinea con las Escrituras, bien puede ser de Dios. Toma pequeños pasos. Entonces, si tienes una certeza creciente en tu corazón de que proviene de Dios, ¡ACTÚA a toda velocidad!
Dios generalmente te hablará varias veces, por caminos separados. Para mí es una combinación de sermones de iglesia (incluso si el predicador no es muy bueno), radio cristiana, música, escuchar otra conversación totalmente diferente, un recuerdo, la Palabra, una palabra amable de un hermano verdaderamente humilde, un pensamiento eso entra en tu cabeza mientras ores, o incluso a veces desde medios seculares.
Nunca he escuchado a Dios con una voz audible. Cuando alguien, presuntuosamente, te dice que el Señor les dijo algo sobre ti que nunca se te ha pasado por la cabeza, ¡CORRA! Si humildemente (casi nerviosamente) sugieren que podría ser de Dios, escucha. Esa persona podría tener razón, podría estar equivocada, solo escucha. Dios confirmará, ¡confíe en Él!
Cuando estés tan seguro como puedas, corre tan duro como puedas con él. Dios conoce tu corazón Usted y usted solo son responsables de cómo lo maneja. Si es su voluntad, Él te hará pasar, si no, no lo hará. De cualquier manera, está bien. Él te hará saber si es o no es así.
Creo que en este momento es fundamental para nosotros misioneros escuchar correctamente a Dios. Con todos los disturbios civiles aquí en Nicaragua, (y los rumores) todos simplemente estamos conteniendo la respiración y creyendo que no es así, hasta que el peligro también pase.
¡Hasta aquí todo bien! Creo que esta amenaza de otra guerra civil en Nicaragua es solo temporal. Para bien o mal, Winnie Sr y yo estamos encerrados durante todo el tiempo. Nuestros dos hijos están seguros en Ohio, yendo a la escuela en Berkshire.
Creemos que Dios nos llamó a ministrar aquí. Él nos llamó específicamente para un momento como este. Aquí mismo, en este momento, no hay otro lugar en el que nos gustaría estar!
Pure Heart Pre-k, el centro de alimentación en La Chureca, el centro de alimentación y Winner Club en el Winner Home están todos abiertos. Hubo preocupaciones reales de seguridad debido a los disturbios, pero continuamente y cuidadosamente rendimos el ministerio completo tanto como podemos, incluyendo las áreas afuera.
Todavía podemos recibir dinero para alimentos, medicinas, agua y gasolina, aunque los precios son más altos.
Continuaremos actuando y viviendo en la fe de que este es solo un asunto temporal, (porque el hecho es que, de todos modos, es temporal). Salimos con fe alimentando, enseñando y ayudando a los niños con los que Dios nos ha confiado.
